Last week, the Youth Conference “Towards a fair green and digital transition through youth skills development” was held in Tallinn to develop young people’s skills in sustainable development. The Sillamae Society for Child Welfare organised the conference, which was supported by the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, the Tallinn Urban Environment and Public Works Department, and the Tallinn City Civic Peace Programme.

The conference aimed to broaden and strengthen cooperation and dialogue between the education and youth sectors, developing individual knowledge, skills and attitudes linked to the green and digital transition of participants and building a diverse network of communication and social capital between young people and the community, but also with public authorities. The conference was a formal platform for a constructive exchange of ideas, as well as for conclusions and general statements. The conference also contributed to a broader dissemination of the project’s overall ideas and objectives in society.

Our colleague Laura Maria Rajala spoke at the panel discussion “Green transition as an engine for growth and a new way of life”. In her presentation, she presented the 5Rs sustainability framework. Laura Maria Rajala emphasised the importance of implementing the 5Rs framework to ensure sustainable change and living. She also noted that young people are essential in achieving sustainable development goals.

The Fair Green and Digital 2023 conference was a successful platform for sharing knowledge and experience in sustainable development. The conference participants gained new skills and knowledge that will help them contribute to creating a more sustainable future.
